Win at Sandwich
Cowdrey returned from their first visit to the East Kent town having secured a 6 wicket victory and 19 points that takes them to the top of the table in what looks like being a very competitive division 1A of the Kent Feeder League (East).
Choosing to bat first, on a sunny afternoon with a bracing easterly wind, Sandwich were soon in trouble, losing 2 wickets in the 2nd over of the day. They steadily recovered and eventually batted through their 46 overs making a useful 190 for 8. Opener P.Goatham scoring 37 and from batting at no 5, C.Thurgate 60. For Cowdrey, Chris Jones bowled well for his 3 for 36 off 10, while Gary Marshall took 2 for 30 off 8 overs.
In reply, Cowdrey began well but lost Andy Hammond, bowled for 25, followed by an uncertain period where they moved on to 103 for 4 when losing Jack Mutch for 15. .Opener, Lewis Wright was still there and after a slow start, picked up the rate, he was now joined by Chris Jones and these two stayed to see Cowdrey to a fine victory without any further loss of wickets and with 3 overs to spare. Wright, who had survived two earlier chances, batted superbly for his 91 not out and Jones ended on 31 not out. They now sit at the top of the division, but with 3 other teams breathing down their neck, all having won 3 out of their first 4 matches, things are likely to change from week to week.
