Holmesdale too strong for weakened Cowdrey side

With Cowdrey supplying five players to the District side it was time for some of the less experienced boys to step up to the crease. Facing a strong Holmesdale side this was always going to be a difficult test but the new faces were a credit to Cowdrey, particularly young players Alex Jessop and Sam Grehy. Sam bowled a maiden over in his spell of four overs for nine runs, taking a wicket into the bargain, while Alex showed the older boys how to do it with a wicket from his first ball. Tom Mead also got a wicket in his first game for Cowdrey.

Cowdrey were set a difficult target of 144 to win, and although they were unable to get close, they deserve credit for batting out their 22 overs. Connor Simpson was the pick of the batsmen with 29 runs. Cowdrey finished the match with 68 runs but their heads held high.

Special mention to Alex Howard, who captained for the first time and looked like a natural!
